We’re On Summer Vacation

Guest Blogger Calivintage: Goodbye

I can’t believe it’s my final day of guest editing and styling for live.love.LOFT!  I’ve had such a fun time styling up LOFT pieces with my own personal wardrobe and sharing them with you here and on my blog, Calivintage.  So for my final post, I am wearing a head-to-toe LOFT outfit!  I thought it would be fun to get a little bit experimental and do some subtle pattern mixing.  I instantly fell in love with this shimmery quilted skirt and knew that it would be a fun challenge to style it up.  After trying a few solid color tanks and t-shirts, the pattern on this tie-dye shirt caught my eye!  Even though it’s an unexpected combination, I really love the result!

Guest Blogger Calivintage: One Item Four Ways

I can’t believe that June is almost over and that my month of guest blogging for LOFT is already drawing to an end!  It’s been so much fun putting together outfits with LOFT pieces that today I thought I would give you an extra dose of styling and show you four different ways that I styled up my favorite LOFT piece: the pleated sleeve ruffle neck blouse.  I actually already styled it up in a Teddy Girl inspired look earlier this month, and I loved the dusty rose color and romantic ruffles so much that I knew it would be the perfect blouse to style up for all different occasions!

Guest Blogger Calivintage: Versatility

When I first saw these gauzy cream blouse, I knew that it would be the perfect versatile top for my summer.   The ruffles at the shoulder and sleeves add a perfect element of cheeriness and the lightweight material are perfect for keeping cool on hot days.  I immediately paired it with a pair of dark rinse jeans and flat sandals for a day running errands, but today I thought it would be fun to see how it would work as a nice layering piece under this cute little pinafore.  I love those versatile pieces that can easily be dressed up or down for whatever the occasion!

Guest Blogger Calivintage: Casual Cool

There’s certainly no reason to get dressed-to-the-nines when on a trip to the thrift store, post office, or farmer’s market, but it’s always nice to infuse a little bit of style into an outfit while still keeping comfortable.  Today I decided to keep it casual cool while running errands in a vintage silk blouse that I scored at a thrift store for only $3 bucks with a pair of skinny jeans, comfortable platforms, and this darling woven leather tote.

Easy Summer Packing

We can’t wait to head out of town for a summer vacation! If you’re doing the same, use these five easy tips to make packing your bags a breeze.

1. Ditch the hefty baggage. Wheeled suitcases are as heavy as they are hefty. Why schlep one to the airport if you don’t have to? Switch to a lightweight soft-sided bag — lots of travel companies make them to fit standard carry-on dimensions. You can slide yours underneath the seat in front of you, and you’ll never have to fight for overhead compartment space again.

2. Roll with it. Instead of folding clothes, roll them up. Place the largest rolls on the bottom of your bag, then put smaller ones on top. You can pack more items this way, and better yet, your clothes won’t be wrinkled.

3. Minimize liquids. Since it’s difficult to pack liquids in a carry-on, eliminate as many as you can. Swap bottled shampoo for a solid one like Lush’s, and carry facial cleansing wipes instead of cleanser and makeup remover.

4. Get organized. Instead of haphazardly placing your belongings into your luggage, invest in packing cubes for clothing, shoes, toiletries, and lingerie. It’s easier to find what you need if everything has a place. Think of it like 3D Tetris.

5. Simplify, simplify. You know the old advice to dress yourself, then take one thing off before you leave the house? The same applies to packing. The less you have to carry, the better — and you’ll have room in your bag for a souvenir or two.

Wear Now, Wear Later

It may be summer but we are already thinking about how our favorite summer pieces can work for us this fall. This cotton sundress is the best way we can think of to beat the heat-and look great doing it. Layer this sweet sundress under a military inspired jacket and it’s ready for a night out as the temperatures drop (suede booties make it even more fall).

Guest Blogger Calivintage: Back To Basics

Today I am wearing my ideal outfit for a casual evening out with friends.  The simple tank top and cardigan keep it comfortable, while the bright pink skirt adds just a touch of fun and whimsy to the look.  To add a bit of interest, I created a subtle pattern play between the straps of these wedges and the pleated hem of the skirt.  It’s a simple outfit, but I love the way that just a few basics can still be perfectly fun and fancy free!

One thing that I like about this combination is that you can keep the base the same (simple tank top, cardigan, and statement shoes), and easily switch out the skirt with something more office appropriate for work.  Switch it up to something more fun, and you’ve easily transitioned from day-to-night.

Guest Blogger Calivintage: Young Edwardian

My love of everything vintage often leads me on fun little hunts around the web for inspiration from vintage photographs of people wearing clothes from days gone by.  I’ve recently found myself enamored with the looks sported by the Teddy Girls of London in the 1950’s.  This small counterculture group borrowed their fashion tips from the Edwardian period, pairing ruffled blouses, cameo brooches, and straw hats with drainpipe jeans and tailored jackets.   So today I decided to style up my own version of the look with a more modern and sophisticated twist on the classic style.

One thing I love about finding inspiration from the past is that you can take key elements and still come out with an outfit that is current and on trend.  I particularly love the versatility of this pretty ruffled blouse and simple woven clutch because they can be seamlessly incorporated into a more modern wardrobe, but are completely transformed when styled up in vintage-style outfit such as this!

Jacket: Vintage Sassoon blazer

Blouse: LOFT pleated sleeve ruffle neck blouse

Jeans: J Brand 210 The Oslo

Shoes: Nine West suede platforms

Clutch: LOFT caning woven leather clutch

Hat: Vintage straw boater hat
